BARCELONA: Taxi workers should be given preference in the issuance of temporary and provisional taxi licenses.

This demand was made by a Pakistani delegation to the Parliamentary Commission on Transport Law of the Esquerra Party.

At the invitation of Shehzad Akbar Waraich, Patron-in-Chief of the Pakistani Taxi Sector in Barcelona, a meeting was held at the Parliament House of Catalonia with Esquerra Party members, including former Interior Minister Joan Ignasi.

The meeting was attended by Sufyan Younis, Saad Mukhtar Tarrar, and taxi company heads Raúl and Helena from the Pakistani delegation.

The Pakistani delegation pointed out Article 13, Section 2 of the proposed law, which states that taxi owners will be given preference at the time of issuance of Licencias Estacionals.

The delegation requested the Esquerra leadership to amend this section to give preference to professional taxi workers.

According to the delegation, taxi owners already own one vehicle. If they obtain another license, they would hire a professional worker. Therefore, they requested that professional taxi workers be explicitly given preference.

This preference should apply to both estacionals and temporals licenses.

The Esquerra Party member from the Parliamentary Commission on Transport Law noted this point.

The meeting was organized by Shehzad Akbar Waraich, former councilor candidate and Patron-in-Chief of the Pakistani Taxi Sector in Barcelona, on behalf of the Esquerra Party.
