ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has issued the Frontier Constabulary Reorganization Ordinance 2025, transforming the Frontier Constabulary (FC) into a nationwide federal force called the Federal Constabulary.

According to the official notification, the Federal Constabulary will now have the authority to operate in all four provinces, Islamabad, Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. This marks a significant expansion of its jurisdiction beyond its traditional role.

The ordinance, issued after amendments to the Frontier Constabulary Act 1915, formally changes the name of the force from Frontier Constabulary to Federal Constabulary. Its mandate includes controlling riots, ensuring internal security, counter-terrorism operations, and providing general protection duties across the country.

Under the new framework, the federal government will appoint the Inspector General of the Federal Constabulary. Rules governing the force will be formulated, and each administrative division will have a Wing Commander with the rank equivalent to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police.

The federal government will also be empowered to recruit a Federal Reserve Force for maintaining law and order when needed.
