President signs constitutional amendment into law

After passage by parliament, prime minister had sent document for president's consent.

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari on Monday signed the 26th constitutional amendment into law, said a statement issued by the President House.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif had sent the document to the president for his consent following the passage of the bill by both houses of parliament with two-third majority.

The Senate and National Assembly on Sunday night desperately met to pass the bill. The bill sailed through the upper house of parliament earlier while the National Assembly could pass it after 3am this morning.
