President Zardari Approves Change To 11th Finance Commission

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has approved a change in the composition of the 11th National Finance Commission (NFC) following a revised nomination from the Government of Balochistan.

The provincial government had recommended Mahfooz Ali Khan as its non, ex-officio member in the 11th NFC, replacing its earlier nominee. The President accorded approval to this new nomination, thereby superseding the previous approval.

With this decision, the NFC now stands fully constituted, enabling it to begin deliberations on the distribution of financial resources between the federation and the provinces.

In a separate development, President Zardari also gave his assent to the Criminal Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2025, recently passed by Parliament. The legislation introduces amendments to existing criminal laws, though details of the provisions have not yet been publicly disclosed.

The NFC award is a cornerstone of Pakistan’s fiscal federalism, determining how financial resources are allocated between the centre and the provinces.

Analysts note that the revised composition will allow the commission to move forward with negotiations at a time when resource distribution remains a critical issue for provincial governments.
