ISLAMABAD: Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar has clarified that the jail manual does not contain any provision requiring that a prisoner’s medical treatment be carried out according to their personal preference.

Speaking during a Senate session, Tarar stated that Imran Khan was taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) as per schedule and with his consent, where he was examined by four specialist doctors.

The law minister explained that the timing of Khan’s hospital transfer is determined at night while considering security and law and order conditions, ensuring that he is transported when traffic flow is minimal.

According to Tarar, Dr. Nadeem from Al-Shifa Eye Hospital and Professor Arif from PIMS examined the former prime minister.

After consultation among doctors, Khan was administered a second dose of treatment. He reiterated that the jail manual does not state that a prisoner’s treatment must be conducted according to their wishes.

He further said that a professor of general health also examined Khan and no alarming health concerns were reported. The minister added that he was sharing details about Khan’s condition on the advice of PIMS’ executive director and expressed prayers for his health.

Tarar emphasized that the PTI founder is a convicted individual and that only the courts have the authority to grant his release. He stated that being a former prime minister does not entitle him to have his cases heard ahead of others.
