Private Hospitals Told To Provide Free Treatment to Flood Victims
LAHORE: The Punjab Healthcare Commission (PHC) has issued directives to private hospitals across the province, making it mandatory for them to provide free treatment and dedicate significant resources to flood-affected patients.
According to a notification, all private hospitals must reserve 35 percent of their beds for flood victims. Emergency departments and intensive care units (ICUs) are required to remain operational 24/7, ensuring immediate access to life-saving care. Hospitals have also been instructed to supply essential medicines free of cost to those affected.
To curb the risk of epidemics, the PHC has directed private healthcare facilities to enhance monitoring of waterborne diseases. Preventive safety measures, including the installation of sandbags and water pumps at hospital entrances, have been made compulsory to protect medical facilities from flood damage.
Furthermore, hospitals have been advised to work in close coordination with local NGOs and ambulance services for the smooth transfer of patients from disaster-hit areas.
The PHC emphasized that these measures are crucial to safeguarding public health and ensuring uninterrupted medical assistance to thousands of people displaced by the floods.
