Properties of Nijjar’s ally confiscated in India

Gurpatwant Singh Pannun was declared as terrorist and wanted on charges of terrorism and sedition in 2020.

NEW DELHI: While India is red-faced and under immense pressure after allegation that its agents murdered a Sikh leader in Canada in June, back home the Modi government confiscated the properties of a close ally of the deceased Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

India in 2020 had declared Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a lawyer believed to be based in Canada, as terrorist and wanted on charges of terrorism and sedition.

Pannun is also the founder of US-based group Sikhs For Justice (SFJ), whose Canada chapter was headed by Nijjar before he was shot dead by armed men near Vancouver in June this year.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau a few days ago said Indian government agents were involved in Nijjar’s murder.

Pannun then issued a video telling Canadian Hindus to “go back to India”, claiming they had adopted a “jingoistic approach” by siding with New Delhi.
