Protesters say their talks with govt officials were successful after which the protest was called off.

CHAMAN (BALOCHISTAN): A protest by transporters and traders ended their protest sit-in at Chaman border after about nine months on Sunday.

The leaders of the protesters say their talks with govt officials were successful after which the protest was called off.

The protest was started at the Chaman border nine months ago when the government made it mandatory for transporters and traders to cross the Chaman border by showing their passports.

Similarly, the Afghan transporters were bound to enter Pakistan on their passports. As the deadlock continued, the protesters refused to end the sit-in.

However, after be negotiations between the government and the protesters, the issue was resolved to the satisfaction of the transporters and traders leading to the end of the protest.

The leaders of the protesters said that the government had accepted their demands and dropped the condition of passports for border crossing.

They said that now the people of Chaman, the border town in Pakistan, and Spin Boldak in Afghanistan, would cross the border into each other’s country by showing their national ID cards.

People belonging to all other areas will visit either country on showing their passports, they added.
