LOS ANGELES: Protests that began in California against President Donald Trump’s immigration policies have now spread to several other states across the United States.
According to international media reports, demonstrations were held in cities including Baltimore, New York, Atlanta, and Chicago against the actions of immigration authorities.
In New York, more than 2,500 people took part in a major protest. Police responded with a crackdown, arresting 83 demonstrators.
Elsewhere, 150 protesters were arrested in San Francisco, 17 in Chicago, and 330 in Southern California.
Meanwhile, the government has authorized military personnel in Los Angeles to detain civilians, a move that has sparked further controversy.
It is worth noting that the protests initially began in Los Angeles following a series of immigration raids targeting undocumented immigrants, which also led to clashes between protesters and law enforcement.
