LAHORE: Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, Mohsin Naqvi, has announced that the Pakistan Super League will begin as scheduled on March 26, but matches will initially be held without spectators.
Speaking at a press conference in Lahore, Naqvi said that the decision was made after consultations with the Prime Minister and security agencies in light of the current global situation.
The opening ceremony of PSL has been cancelled.
Matches will be played behind closed doors until conditions improve.
Fixtures will only take place in Lahore and Karachi. Matches in Peshawar have been postponed, with an assurance of more games there next year.
Naqvi explained that the move comes due to ongoing tensions in the Middle East, making it unsafe to allow large crowds in stadiums. He added that authorities are closely monitoring the situation and will review decisions accordingly.
Fans who purchased tickets can claim refunds within 72 hours.
