MUZAFFARABAD: Sardar Abdul Qayyum Niazi, President of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and former Prime Minister of AJK, has been arrested by the police.
According to police sources, Niazi was taken into custody in Samahni before he could address a public rally in connection with the PTI protest.
DIG Liaqat Chaudhry confirmed that the arrest was made under Section 16 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Ordinance on the orders of the deputy commissioner.
Sardar Niazi was on a two-day visit to Bhimber when the arrest occurred.
It is worth noting that Niazi served as the Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir from August 4, 2021, to April 14, 2022.
