ISLAMABAD: A high-level in-camera briefing was held at the Prime Minister’s House on Wednesday to discuss the evolving regional security situation, but the main opposition party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chose to boycott the session.
The meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, brought together heads of major political parties and parliamentary leaders to receive a confidential briefing on rising border tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan, as well as the ongoing war involving the United States, Israel and Iran.
No representative from Imran Khan’s party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), attended the briefing.
Among the participants were Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gillani, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, and JUI-F chief Fazlur Rehman.
Several federal ministers and senior lawmakers also attended, including Ahsan Iqbal, Azam Nazeer Tarar, Attaullah Tarar, Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Abdul Aleem Khan, Khalid Hussain Magsi, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Chaudhry Salik Hussain, Syed Mustafa Kamal, Rana Mubashir Iqbal, Adviser to the Prime Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan, Senator Sherry Rehman, Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, and others.
The closed-door session focused on assessing the national security environment and formulating a unified political response to emerging regional challenges.
