PESHAWAR: Protests by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters continued in Peshawar and Sawabi against federal government for nit allowing meeting of party leaders with PTI founder and chairman Imran Khan at Adiala Jail.
Former provincial minister Shaukat Yousafzai told the media that the protest at Sawabi Interchange was announced by PTI leader Ahmed Khan Niazi, while the party and the Chief Minister directed workers to proceed to Adiala Jail.
According to Yousafzai, elected representatives would go to the jail, while the Sawabi protest is merely a “token protest” not officially called by the party.
He also mentioned that a protest is ongoing outside the Islamabad High Court. Yousafzai claimed that they are being threatened under “Governor’s rule,” but questioned whether such threats would improve the situation, asserting that the government is issuing false threats to retain power.
Meanwhile, a protest convoy led by PTI leader Ahmed Khan Niazi departed from Peshawar Interchange toward Sawabi Interchange. Niazi told the media that the protest is for the release of the PTI founder and that the motorway at Sawabi would be blocked.
He added that the protest would continue until instructions from Imran Khan’s sisters are received, and it is limited to the Sawabi area.
The convoy from Peshawar reached Charsadda, where 80-100 supporters welcomed it before it resumed its journey to Sawabi.
According to party sources, the protest in Peshawar was smaller in scale, and no member of the provincial assembly or senior official was present at the toll plaza.
