LAHORE: Senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and founding member Hamid Khan has strongly criticized the 26th and 27th constitutional amendments, stating that the constitution was “killed” through the 26th amendment and “buried” by the 27th.
Speaking at a press conference organized by the Professional Group at Lahore High Court, Khan claimed that an illegitimate government had been imposed on the country and that provincial and federal governments were formed through fraudulent elections. He added that assemblies made constitutional amendments beyond their authority.
Khan also criticized the curbing of political dissent, saying, “Those trying to raise their voices politically are being silenced. The level of oppression and injustice in the country is unprecedented.”
He praised the role of lawyers in defending the constitution and hoped that legal professionals would not side with the establishment in the future. Regarding the Islamabad High Court presidency, Khan expressed surprise at the extent of financial influence by the establishment.
Reflecting on the past year, he said, “We pray that the new year brings relief and positive change. The year 2025 and previous years have been among the most difficult for Pakistan.”
