ISLAMABAD: The residents of Islamabad are facing yet another day of inconvenience due to road blockades across the city on the occasion of a public meeting by PTI.

Though the government has issued a no-objection certificate to the PTI to hold the public gathering on the outskirts of the city, the district administration showed overreaction and blocked by containers all the entry and exit points of the capital from Saturday night.

Citizens in Islamabad were seen stuck on different roads when the police blocked traffic after putting shipping containers on main highways and below overhead bridges on Kashmir Highway, Islamabad Expressway, Murree Road, IJP Road and other arteries.

The citizens said  that the government had already passed a law and restricted holding of public rallies outside the capital city and also allowed the PTI to hold its public gathering at Sagnjani. However, after issuing permission to the party, there was no justification for the government to block the roads to stop the PTI supporters from attending the rally.

On the other hand, a large number of people arrived in Islamabad from different parts of the country, especially from KP. The supporters of the PTI coming from KP were seen bringing with them cranes and other machinery to remove blockages put on different roads. The district administration of Islamabad has directed the organisers of the public gathering to conclude it within the given time that is 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The administration has warned the organizers that the NOC would be withdrawn and legal action would be taken against them if they violated any term and condition of the permission.
