QUETTA: In anticipation of a major rally by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Tehreek Tahaffuz-e-Aeen Pakistan, the Quetta administration has sealed off the city by blocking all major roads with trucks and containers.
Mobile and internet services have also been suspended across the provincial capital.
According to the district administration, permission for the rally at the Hockey Ground was denied due to serious security concerns. However, PTI leaders have vowed to proceed with the gathering regardless of the restrictions, declaring it a movement for the supremacy of the Constitution and the restoration of democratic rights.
The administration has imposed Section 144 across Balochistan for one month, banning all public gatherings. Heavy police and security contingents have been deployed throughout Quetta to prevent any untoward incidents.
The road closures have caused severe disruption to daily life, particularly for students trying to reach schools and colleges. Major intersections remain jammed, with commuters stranded for hours.
Meanwhile, the suspension of mobile and internet services has further paralyzed communication and routine business operations in the city. Officials have urged citizens to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary.
The tense situation has heightened political uncertainty in Quetta as PTI continues its nationwide campaign of rallies and protests. Security agencies remain on high alert as authorities monitor the evolving situation closely.
