PTI Slams Fresh Speculation Over Governor’s Rule in KP

PESHAWAR: New rumors about the possible imposition of Governor’s Rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have prompted a sharp reaction from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), which accused the federal government of attempting to pressure the provincial leadership.

PTI senior leader Sheikh Waqas Akram, while speaking to a private news channel, said that discussions regarding Governor’s Rule in KP are not new, adding that similar claims were made even before former Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur stepped down.

He noted that the governor and several federal ministers had made such remarks on multiple occasions. “This is nothing unusual. They want to create pressure on the chief minister,” he said.

Calling the renewed debate “part of a planned agenda,” he stated that if there are allegations of drug trafficking or other charges against the chief minister, the government should present concrete evidence. He added that the KP chief minister should consider filing a defamation suit if baseless accusations continue.

Waqas Akram emphasized that the people of KP have repeatedly entrusted PTI with their mandate, and any attempt to undermine that mandate would be unacceptable. “If they wish to snatch a party’s mandate, it would be wrong. If they plan to do this, they can go ahead and try,” he remarked.

The discussion re-emerged after federal authorities suggested that the option of Governor’s Rule was under review.
