LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced the launch of the “Apni Zameen Apna Ghar” initiative, promising to provide citizens with both land and fully built homes.

She said the program reflects the sincerity of Pakistan’s political and military leadership, adding that Punjab is undergoing visible transformation while the country gains diplomatic ground and receives positive economic signals from global institutions.

Addressing a ceremony for the “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” interest-free loan program, the Chief Minister congratulated beneficiaries and revealed that in just seven months, 64,000 people have secured housing through the scheme.

Interest-free loans will be repayable over nine years, with monthly installments capped at Rs 15,000 — around Rs 14,000 for employed individuals.

Maryam Nawaz said 60,000 to 70,000 follow-up calls were made to ensure recipients faced no problems, with 95% expressing their appreciation. She personally listened to hundreds of calls, describing the beneficiaries as “living stories” of hope and stability.

By the end of August, the number of loans is expected to reach 75,000, and 100,000 by year’s end. Over the next five years, the government aims to deliver 500,000 homes, benefiting 2.5 million people.

“As a mother and daughter, this project gives me the greatest satisfaction,” she said. “A home is essential for safety, dignity, and peace of mind.”
