LAHORE: The Punjab government has formally decided to initiate a wide-ranging operation aimed at the rehabilitation of flood victims across the province.

The announcement came following a high-level meeting in Lahore chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

During the session, senior officials provided a detailed briefing, explaining that district- and tehsil-level flood relief committees are being established. Additionally, specially designed survey forms, a dedicated mobile application, and a centralized monitoring dashboard will be launched to facilitate transparent data collection and efficient relief distribution.

According to the report submitted by the Revenue Department, flooding has severely impacted 27 districts, 64 tehsils, and 3,775 villages of Punjab.

The calamity has caused damage to 63,200 permanent houses and 309,684 mud structures. To ensure accuracy and impartiality, the survey teams will comprise representatives from the Urban Unit, Revenue Department, Agriculture Department, and the Pakistan Army.

Directing immediate action, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz instructed authorities to prioritize the urgent restoration of roads, bridges, and other critical infrastructure across the affected regions. She underscored that the provincial government remains fully committed to providing comprehensive assistance to the victims and emphasized that relief must proactively reach people at their doorstep rather than requiring them to seek help.

The Chief Minister further ordered the establishment of additional relief camps and distribution points throughout Punjab, assuring that every household’s losses would be duly compensated. “No affected person should be deprived of assistance,” she stressed, highlighting her government’s resolve to deliver equitable and swift rehabilitation.

Despite receding water levels in the Sutlej River, dozens of villages in Bahawalpur remain inundated under several feet of water. Meanwhile, in Multan, a 36-inch gas pipeline has been damaged, and at Jalalpur the M-5 Motorway remains closed for the fifth consecutive day due to floodwaters.
