Punjab Shines at National Games With 13 Gold Medals
KARACHI: Punjab’s athletes delivered an outstanding performance at the 35th National Games, securing a total of 13 gold medals across various sports.
The event, held in Karachi, saw Punjab dominate in several disciplines, highlighting the province’s growing sports talent and dedication.
In Wushu, Muhammad Ameer clinched the gold medal in the Tai Chi category, while Summer Abbas bagged another gold in the Diao Shou event. These victories were a testament to the skill and hard work of Punjab’s Wushu athletes.
Punjab’s wrestlers also proved their mettle with Abdul Rahman winning a gold in the 65 kg category. Rahman, who is part of the Punjab Sports Board’s Sports Endowment Fund scholarship program, was a key contributor to Punjab’s success in wrestling. In total, Punjab wrestlers earned 2 gold, 2 silver, and 2 bronze medals.
In Table Tennis, the mixed doubles pair of Owais Hassan and Kulsoom Khan secured a gold medal, while in Fencing, Punjab’s team comprising Tahseen, Noman, Murtaza, and Naim triumphed in the team event, winning gold.
In the women’s basketball category, Punjab won a silver medal, while the girls’ 4x100m relay team also earned a silver in athletics, demonstrating their competitive spirit and teamwork.
In weightlifting, Musab Sethi and Farhal Jamil won bronze medals, while in squash, both the boys’ and girls’ teams from Punjab secured bronze in the team event.
Taekwondo athletes Ayesha Amir (73+ kg) and Syed Muhammad Akmal (87+ kg) also made it to the semifinals, adding to Punjab’s impressive medal tally.
