Punjab, Sindh Extend Winter Vacations for Schools Amid Cold Weather
LAHORE/KARACHI: As the winter chill intensifies across Pakistan, both the Punjab and Sindh education ministries announced extensions to the winter holidays for all schools, ensuring students’ safety and well-being during the severe cold.
In Punjab, the Education Ministry has decided to extend the winter vacations for an additional week. Originally scheduled to end on January 12th, the holidays will now continue until January 19th.
This decision was made after the ministry conducted a public survey, in which nearly 87% of respondents supported the extension, citing concerns over the harsh winter conditions and their impact on students’ health.
The minister stated that the decision was taken to protect students from the risks of severe cold and to ensure their safety and comfort. As per the new schedule, schools in Punjab will reopen on January 19th.
Meanwhile, in Sindh, the Education Ministry has also announced an extension of the winter holidays due to the ongoing cold wave. The decision comes after several complaints from parents and teachers regarding the adverse effects of the severe winter on students. The new break will see schools in Sindh remain closed until January 15th, providing an additional few days for students to stay home and avoid the freezing temperatures. The Ministry of Education confirmed that both public and private schools would observe the extended break.
