LAHORE: India released water into the Sutlej River, sharply increasing its flow and flooding several areas in Pakistan.
At Head Ganda Singh Wala, the river surged to 195,899 cusecs, reaching critically high levels. Rising waters submerged villages in Bahawalpur and Bahawalnagar, destroying homes and thousands of acres of farmland.
In Burewala, flooding struck Sahuka and surrounding settlements. A breach on the Sahuka-Chishtian Road cut off ground access to hundreds of villages. Authorities evacuated residents by boats to safer locations.
Officials warned that the Chenab River could receive a flood wave of up to 350,000 cusecs from upstream releases in India. Water levels in the Chenab more than doubled in a single day, prompting authorities to establish flood relief camps.
Moderate flooding affected Head Suleimanki and Jassar on the Ravi River, where flows reached 82,140 cusecs. In the Indus River, Kotri Barrage recorded low-level flooding with an inflow of 217,490 cusecs. Authorities also reported moderate floods at Sukkur Barrage, while Tarbela, Kalabagh, Chashma, and Guddu barrages experienced low-level inundation.
India notified Pakistan for the second time in 24 hours about the upcoming water release. Pakistani authorities continue to monitor the rivers and evacuate residents to safe areas.
