DOHA: Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani has announced plans to visit Pakistan early next year, expressing his strong desire to further strengthen the long-standing and brotherly relations between the two countries.
The announcement came during a meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari, in which the two leaders discussed ways to enhance cooperation in diverse areas including defence, trade, investment, agriculture, and food security.
President Zardari conveyed greetings and best wishes from the government and people of Pakistan, and lauded the Emir’s visionary leadership that has led Qatar to remarkable development and prosperity.
The Qatari Emir expressed pride in Pakistan’s achievements and praised the contributions of the Pakistani community in Qatar, saying he looked forward to increasing their participation in the country’s growth.
Sheikh Tamim also welcomed the Pakistan–Saudi Arabia defence cooperation agreement, calling it a timely and positive step. He highlighted Pakistan’s unique position as a nation maintaining strong and balanced relations with China, the Western world, and the Gulf states.
President Zardari acknowledged Qatar’s constructive role in promoting regional peace, particularly its efforts in facilitating dialogue on Afghanistan. He also appreciated Doha’s hosting of global peace and development conferences.
The meeting was also attended by Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Pakistan’s ambassador to Qatar.
The Emir accepted President Zardari’s invitation to visit Pakistan in early 2026.
