LAHORE: Railway stations across Pakistan have increasingly become gathering points for runaway children, prompting action by the Railway Police, who recovered 658 boys and girls during the year 2025 and safely handed them back to their families.
According to official statistics, those recovered included 413 boys and 245 girls who had fled their homes and arrived at various railway stations. The children were later traced and reunited with their relatives after necessary legal and welfare procedures.
Police data shows that most of the girls were between 15 and 18 years of age, while boys ranged from 14 to 17 years, with a significant number falling in the 12 to 15-year age bracket. Many of these children reportedly ran away due to domestic problems and were either attempting to reach relatives or surviving at railway stations.
During preliminary investigations, the majority of the children cited poverty, unemployment, lack of food, parental scolding, forced labor, domestic pressure, and the influence of social media as key reasons for leaving home.
Some also mentioned romantic relationships and the desire for a better lifestyle as motivating factors.
