ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar on Monday said that political activity that has started in the country shows that the election commission will soon announce a date for the forthcoming general elections.
He was speaking at a press conference held to update the nation on his recent visit to China to attend the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) forum during which he said 22 MOUs were signed for launching different new projects.
In reply to a question, Kakar said that the caretaker government would provide all-out support to the election commission to conduct free and fair polls. He said no major political party would be kept out of the elections.
He said that allegations that all political parties would not be given a level-playing field, he said that these allegations had appeared after PML-N supreme leader Nawaz Sharif was facilitated to have a biometric in connection with his court cases at the Islamabad airport. He wondered how the caretakers could deny a level-playing field to any political party within its brief stint.
Asked if agreements with China will be continued by the elected government, Kakar said it was the state not individuals or politicians who signed them, therefore, governments should implement the agreements for credibility in the international sphere. He said continuity of policies is inevitable for continuity of development process.
Replying to a question about repatriation of illegal nationals including Afghans, he said we only want to regulate the movement between Afghanistan and Pakistan so that only individuals with valid documents can move between the two countries.
