Renowned Tamil Actor Dies After On-Set Collapse
CHENNAI: Popular Tamil film and television actor Robo Shankar, known for his comic timing and versatile supporting roles, passed away at the age of 46 after collapsing during a film shoot last week.
According to Indian media reports, Shankar suddenly fell unconscious on September 16 while filming. He was immediately rushed to a private hospital in Chennai and admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU). Despite receiving critical medical care, his condition worsened, and he succumbed to complications on Thursday night.
Doctors confirmed that Shankar had been suffering from multiple health issues in recent months. Although he had recently recovered from jaundice, his overall health had remained fragile.
Hospital authorities later issued a statement citing gastrointestinal bleeding and multiple organ failure as the cause of death.
The actor’s last rites were performed in Chennai on Friday, with family, friends, and fans paying their final respects.
Robo Shankar rose to prominence through his unique performances on television shows, where his signature “robot dance” earned him the nickname “Robo.”
He made his film debut in 1997, initially appearing in minor roles before gaining recognition as a reliable supporting actor in numerous Tamil movies. Over the years, he became a household name in South Indian entertainment, admired for his humor, energy, and ability to connect with audiences.
His untimely death has left a void in the Tamil film industry, with tributes pouring in from colleagues and fans alike.
