ISLAMABAD: Human rights organizations have expressed serious concern over the rising trend of child labour in Pakistan, citing poverty and lack of enforcement of laws as the primary causes.
According to their estimates, over one million children across the country are forced into labour, often in hazardous and exploitative conditions.
These organizations stress that despite the existence of laws prohibiting child labour, weak implementation and socio-economic challenges continue to push children out of schools and into workplaces.
In response to this, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, on the occasion of the World Day Against Child Labour, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to tackling the issue. He stated that Pakistan has enacted effective legislation aimed at eliminating child labour.
He also mentioned that the government has launched various programs to improve child welfare, including initiatives focused on nutrition and education. The Prime Minister highlighted the role of the Daanish School System in providing underprivileged children with a safe and supportive learning environment.
He called on all stakeholders to collaborate with the government to secure a better future for the nation’s children, emphasizing that educating children is essential for national development.
