Rs.83 billion Approved for Development Projects in Karachi

KARACHI: The Sindh Cabinet has approved a Rs. 83 billion package aimed at the city’s growth and modernization.

The decision, which was finalized during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah  reflects the government’s commitment to addressing the city’s infrastructural challenges and ensuring its long-term economic prosperity.

Karachi, being Pakistan’s economic hub, has long faced issues such as traffic congestion, poor waste management, and dilapidated public services, making this funding a crucial step in addressing these challenges.

In addition to the development fund for Karachi, the cabinet also made a key decision to approve an increase of Rs. 6.1 billion for the Flood Emergency Rehabilitation Fund. This additional allocation is aimed at bolstering recovery efforts in flood-hit areas of Sindh, helping affected communities rebuild their homes and infrastructure. This move comes in response to the devastating floods that have impacted many parts of the province, and the government is focused on delivering swift and effective relief.

Security and intelligence have also been a priority in today’s meeting. The cabinet approved Rs. 1.24 billion for the establishment and operationalization of the Provincial Intelligence Fusion and Threat Assessment Centre. The center is expected to play a critical role in improving security coordination and analyzing potential threats to the province, further strengthening efforts to ensure the safety of citizens and prevent any untoward incidents.

The Sindh cabinet also addressed long-term infrastructure development with the approval of Rs. 1.13 billion for land acquisition required for the Hyderabad-Sukkur Motorway project. The motorway, which will connect two important cities in Sindh, is expected to significantly reduce travel time, improve logistics, and boost trade and tourism between the regions.
