ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Friday issued notices to former ISI director general Faiz Hamid and others in a petition filed by former Islamabad High Court judge Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui against his removal.
A five-member bench of the court headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa continued hearing of of the petition.
Hamid Khan appeared on behalf of the petitioner and informed the court that his client had added the names of the respondents to the petition.
The petition was filed iver a year ago and has been taken up by the court after Justice Qazi Faez Isa took over as the chief justice of Pakistan.
Chief Justice asked if the allegations levelled by Suddiqui on the basis of which he was removed as judge me were correct? Was the general against whom the petitioner had levelled charges himself planned to come to power in 2018?
He added that if the charges were correct, then the general must have been working as a facilitator of someone else; who was that person for whom the general was working as a facilitator?
In reply, the counsel said that all allegations levelled by his client were correct.
The chief justice said if the facilitators have been made respondents in the petition, why not the person for whom they were working.
In reply, Siddiqui clarified that in his speech there was no mention of anyone who was taking benefit of what the intelligence agency was doing. He said in the 2018 elections, the military had gotten the election symbol of Jeep for its choice candidates.
To this, the chief justice asked is the military an independent organization or it works under the government. Who’s running the army?
Hamid Khan said the army works under the government.
