People affected by power outages in Peshawar told to approach NEPRA and its tribunals.

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday nullified a direction issued by the Peshawar High Court to register police cases against power utility companies for outages of electricity.

The apex court verdict came on a petition filed by Peshawar Electric Supply Company seeking suspension of the Peshawar High Court order for registration of FIRs against it.

The PHC had ordered the police to register cases against PESCO for failing to ensure supply of electricity to the consumers.

The consumers had approached the court after facing hours-long power outages and accusing PESCO of negligence yo resolve the issue.

A three-member bench of the Supreme Court however said the verdict of the high court would lead to legal complications and struck it down

The apex court directed the consumers affected by power outages to approach NEPRA and its tribunals for redressal of their grievances.

The court said that in the presence of the available forum for the resolution of such issues, the high court cannot issue such a sweeping in order.

On the request of PESCO counsel, the bench nullified the order issued by the Peshawar High Court.
