SC orders FIA to withdraw notices to 37 journalists

Media persons and YouTubers were called to FIA office for smear campaign against Supreme Court judges.

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Monday ordered the Federal Investigation Agency to withdraw notices it sent to 37 journalists and YouTubers a few days ago.

The order came when a three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa took up a suo motu case instituted by the court on Sunday.

The chief justice during the hearing observed that the judges always welcomed positive criticism but there must be some limits. 

The court directed the FIA to withdraw the notices sent to the journalists and YouTubers forthwith.

The judges observed that cases filed by a number of median persons for action against harassment in the past were not taken up by the court.

The FIA cybercrime wing had issued the notices to the 37 media persons for running a smear campaign against the senior judges of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. 

The FIA on the direction of the federal government investigating social media campaign against the senior judges after the apex court maintained the decision of the Election Commission of Pakistan to remove bat as the election symbol of PTI.
