ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has vacated a stay on the privatization of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).
The constitutional bench of the Supreme Court headed by Justice Aminuddin Khan heard a plea filed by the government.
Attorney General of Pakistan told the bench that the apex court had allowed the management of the national flag carrier to appoint professionals. As the government had initiated the process to privatize the PIA, it could not appoint new professionals.
The attorney general also informed the court that the government was again going for the privatization of the PIA. He said that the European Union recently also lifted a ban on PIA flights to Europe.
Justice Aminuddin remarked that the government this time may receive positive response from investors for the privatization of the airlines.
The constitutional bench then withdrew the stay on the privatization of the PIA and disposed of the petition.
