Turkish cargo ship with 12 crew members goes missing

Kafkametler was last reported to be drifting towards a breakwater off Eregli, in northwest Turkey’s Zonguldak province.

ANKARA: A Turkish cargo ship, along with its 12 crew members, has disappeared mysteriously in Black Sea where there was a severe storm.

Turkish authorities said that communication with the cargo ship was disconnected after the crew reported about a storm in the sea.

Kafkametler, the ship, was last reported to be drifting towards a breakwater off Eregli, in northwest Turkey’s Zonguldak province.

There were 12 crew members, including the captain of the ship.

Rescue teams stand ready to commence operations as soon as the weather permits. However, efforts to establish contact with the vessel and its crew have so far proven unsuccessful due to the severe storm.

The dire situation is a stark reminder of the perils faced by mariners and the pressing need for enhanced safety measures.
