BAKU: An Israeli newspaper has reported that secret negotiations are underway between Syria’s interim government and Israeli officials, with discussions reportedly including the possibility of Syria joining the Abraham Accords.
According to the report, the talks are taking place in Azerbaijan and are being facilitated by Qatar, with Turkey also playing a role. High-level officials, including the head of Israel’s Operations Directorate, as well as Syrian and Turkish representatives, are participating in the discussions.
The newspaper claims that Israel is not ruling out a potential redrawing of the Israeli-Syrian border as part of the broader negotiations.
Meanwhile, former U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that Syrian interim President Ahmad Al-Shara has expressed willingness to join the Abraham Accords — a series of agreements aimed at normalizing relations between Israel and several Arab nations.
Trump and Al-Shara reportedly met in Saudi Arabia in a high-profile meeting attended by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. During the meeting, Trump emphasized efforts to normalize relations with Syria’s new leadership and announced that certain sanctions on Syria had been lifted to mark the beginning of a new chapter.
If confirmed, this development could signal a significant shift in Middle Eastern geopolitics, potentially altering alliances and reshaping regional dynamics.
