LAHORE: India has invited Bangladesh as a reserve team for the upcoming Asia Cup hockey tournament amid uncertainty over Pakistan’s participation due to security concerns.
According to Bangladeshi officials, preparations for the event have already begun following India’s invitation. The tournament is scheduled to take place in the Indian city of Rajgir from August 29.
Tensions between Pakistan and India, along with threats from extremist groups towards Pakistani players, have raised serious doubts about Pakistan’s participation. The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) is expected to announce a final decision within the next one to two days.
Earlier, PHF sources indicated that traveling to India for the Asia Cup this time was unlikely, as players had not been briefed about the tournament. A formal announcement is expected in the coming days.
