Supreme Court judge quits after exit of another judge

Justice Ijazul Ahsan had dissented to proceedings against ex-judge Mazahir Ali Naqvi two days ago.

ISLAMABAD: A day after the resignation of Supreme Court judge Mazahir Ali Akbar Naqvi while proceedings against him were underway at the Supreme Judicial Council, a senior judge of the apex court resigned from the post.

Justice Ijazul Ahsan, third on the seniority list of judges of the apex court, had opposed proceedings against ex-judge Mazahir Ali Naqvi two days ago over a corruption complaint.

When the proceedings started today, Justice Ijazul Ahsan did not show up, prompting the SJC to call the next senior judge after him and thus Justice Mansoor Ali Shah asked to join the council.

Later, Justice Ijazul Ahsan announced to resign as a judge of the Supreme Court and sent his resignation to President Arif Alvi.
