ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday directed officials concerned to ensure foolproof security arrangements at Gwadar International Airport.
He issued the direction while chairing a review meeting about the new airport in the province of Balochistan. He said that Gwadar International Airport is an illustration of Pak-China friendship, adding, “We are grateful to our great friend China for this modern airport of international standards.”
The prime minister also directed for improving the communications and road network between the airport and other areas of the country.
“Operationalization of New Gwadar International Airport will bring prosperity to the area and create employment opportunities,” he added.
Gwadar airport is the largest in the country in terms of area and can handle 0.4 million passengers annually. Flights from Gwadar to Muscat will start from Jan 10 while talks are underway with private airlines of Pakistan, China, Oman and United Arab Emirates for starting domestic and international flight operations from Gwadar.
