ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday expressed confidence that the ongoing Islamabad Talks between the United States and Iran could mark a significant breakthrough toward achieving lasting peace in the region.
The prime minister shared these views during a meeting with US Vice President J.D. Vance in Islamabad, where he commended both delegations for their commitment to engaging in constructive dialogue.
He said that Pakistan remains hopeful that the talks will serve as a stepping stone toward durable peace, adding that the country is committed to continuing its role in facilitating dialogue between the two sides.
During the meeting, the US vice president was accompanied by Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, while the prime minister was assisted by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.
The development comes as Islamabad hosts high-level talks aimed at easing tensions and promoting long-term peace, with Pakistan positioning itself as a key facilitator in the diplomatic process.
