Shehbaz Urges Bahrain to Deepen Investment and Economic Ties

MANAMA: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called on Bahrain to expand its investment footprint in Pakistan, highlighting opportunities across multiple high-growth sectors.

He was speaking during a meeting with the Crown Prince of Bahrain at Al-Qudaibiya Palace in Manama on Wednesday.

He encouraged Bahraini investors to explore partnerships in food security, information technology, construction, mines and minerals, healthcare, renewable energy and tourism. The Prime Minister also proposed boosting regional connectivity through enhanced port-to-port links between Karachi, Gwadar and Khalifa Bin Salman Port.

Acknowledging Bahrain’s longstanding support for the more than 150,000 Pakistanis living in the Kingdom, he reaffirmed Pakistan’s willingness to provide additional skilled manpower. He welcomed the prospect of deeper collaboration in higher education, technical and vocational training, and digital governance, building on initiatives such as King Hamad University. He also thanked Bahrain for facilitating the release and return of Pakistani nationals.

Shehbaz Sharif underlined the potential for significant growth in bilateral trade—currently exceeding 550 million dollars—and expressed confidence it could reach one billion dollars within three years.

He noted that the Pakistan-GCC Free Trade Agreement, now in its final stages, along with recently relaxed visa measures, would further strengthen economic engagement.
