Sikhs hold protest rally in Australian city against Modi govt

Ask New Delhi to stop targeting Sikh leaders of Khalistan Movement.

MELBOURNE: A large number of people belonging to the Sikh community held a protest rally here against the Narendra Modi government of India for murdering their community leader Hadeep Singh Nijjar in Canada this year.

The rally started at Federation Square and ended outside the Parliament House. The participants were carry banners and placards and chanting slogans against the Indian government.

The participants said that the objective of the rally was to make the world aware of the Indian government’s excesses on the Sikh community.

They said the Modi government through its secret agents was eliminating key leaders of the Khalistan Movement who were forced to live in different parts of the world due to safety reasons in their home country.

The protesters called upon the Australian government to take up the issue of Sikh protection and human rights abuses with the government of India.

It may be mentioned here that Nijjar was killed by unknown people in Canada in June this year. Last month Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau directly blamed India for killing Nijjar through its agents, citing intelligence reports.

Canada and later the US have also asked Indian government to cooperate in the murder investigation to arrest the culprits and bring them to book.
