Sindh CM seeks Russian help to restore Steel Mills

Russian ambassador at meeting with Murad Ali Shah says technical team will discuss matter.

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has sought assistance from Russia in restoring the Steel Mills in Karachi.

The assistance was sought by the chief minister at a meeting with Russian Ambassador to Pakistan Albert P. Khorev at the Chief Minister House.

The chief minister said that the Steel Mills was established by Russian help by then Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto in 1974. 

It now is at verge of closure with its machinery rusting but could be restored through Russian technical assistance so that its production capacity along with the employment of its workers could be ensured.

The chief minister said that the PPP government in the province was eager to restore the Steel Mills and make it productive and ensure job security of its employees.

The Russian ambassador promised cooperation and said a technical team from Russia can have consultation with authorities concerned online.

Both sides also agreed that the obsolete machinery of the Steel Mills should be replaced with new ones besides other steps.

On this occasion, the two sides also discussed steps to promote trade. The Russian ambassador expressed his desire to bring Russian investment in the transport sector especially in operating electric buses in Karachi.

The ambassador also said that his country was eager to promote cultural relations with Pakistan and to set up culture and language centers in different parts of the country including Sindh.
