Karachi: The Sindh High Court has temporarily suspended the decision of the Provincial Ombudsman to remove Moonis Alvi, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of K-Electric, from his position.

Mr. Alvi appeared in court alongside his legal counsel, Barrister Abid Zuberi. The court directed him to deposit a penalty amount of Rs 2.5 million with the Nazir (Registrar) of the Sindh High Court.

Notices were also issued to the Provincial Ombudsman and the complainant. The court questioned the legal basis of the Provincial Ombudsman’s decision, asking, “Where is the law supporting the Ombudsman’s action?”

A day earlier, the Ombudsman of Sindh had ordered Moonis Alvi’s removal from office, stating that allegations of harassment against him by a female complainant had been proven.

A fine of Rs 2.5 million was also imposed, with a one-month deadline for payment. The order warned that failure to pay the fine could lead to the seizure of Alvi’s movable and immovable assets.

In response, Mr. Alvi issued a statement denying the allegations, asserting that he has always upheld the values of integrity and professionalism in his conduct. He termed the ombudsman’s decision “deeply painful.”

K-Electric’s spokesperson has also denied reports of Alvi’s resignation, confirming that he continues to serve as CEO.
