Soaring Flour Prices Deepen Consumer Hardships

KARACHI: The continuous rise in flour prices across the country has placed severe financial strain on consumers.

According to the latest official documents from the Federal Bureau of Statistics, the price of a 20-kilogram flour bag has increased by Rs. 40 to Rs. 590 in various cities within just one week.

The documents reveal that the price of a 20-kilo flour bag has reached the highest in the country in the federal capital, Islamabad, where it now costs a staggering Rs. 2,893.33. Among the cities, Sargodha recorded the highest price hike of Rs. 590 during the past week, followed by Multan at Rs. 226.66, Khuzdar at Rs. 200, Bahawalpur at Rs. 163.33, and Quetta at Rs. 140.

In addition, during the same period, the price of a 20-kilo flour bag in Gujranwala increased by Rs. 134, while in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, the rise was Rs. 120. Karachi, Peshawar, Sukkur, and Larkana saw an increase of up to Rs. 100. In Hyderabad and Sialkot, the price increased by Rs. 80, while in Bannu, it went up by Rs. 50, and in Lahore, by Rs. 40.

According to the Federal Bureau of Statistics, the latest prices show that in Rawalpindi, the cost of a 20-kilogram flour bag has reached Rs. 2,866.47, while in Peshawar, it stands at Rs. 2,850, in Bannu at Rs. 2,800, in Quetta at Rs. 2,660, and in Karachi at Rs. 2,600.

This sharp increase in flour prices has further exacerbated the hardships of an already inflation-stricken population. Consumers are now eagerly awaiting immediate government intervention to address this pressing issue.
