ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry has stated that several social media accounts involved in spreading terrorism-related content are being operated from India and Afghanistan.
In an interview, Chaudhry said terrorist organizations had shifted their tactics from using weapons to exploiting social media platforms, often changing their names to evade detection.
He warned that negative propaganda and AI-generated fake videos are being uploaded online to malign Pakistan.
The minister emphasized that Pakistan has formally written to major social media platforms, urging them to register under Pakistani law, establish offices in the country, and cooperate with the government on counter-terrorism efforts.
He said Pakistan is a frontline state in the fight against terrorism, and weakening Pakistan would endanger global security.
Chaudhry expressed concern that despite repeated identification, many anti-Pakistan and terrorist-linked accounts are not being removed by social media companies. He warned that if platforms fail to comply with Pakistan’s laws, the government would be forced to take action against them.
He stated that cooperation from X (formerly Twitter) with the Government of Pakistan is minimal, while platforms like Telegram and TikTok have shown better coordination in addressing security concerns.
