South African batter Matthew Breetzke has etched his name into the record books by becoming the first player in One-Day International (ODI) history to score fifty or more runs in each of his first five matches.
The 25-year-old continued his remarkable run of form on Thursday in the second ODI against England, scoring a fluent 85 runs to anchor South Africa’s innings. This knock followed his earlier performances, making it five consecutive half-centuries since his debut.
Breetzke had announced himself on the international stage in February this year with a stunning 150 on debut against New Zealand, and has since shown exceptional consistency at the top of the order.
His achievement sets a new global benchmark in ODI cricket, highlighting both his talent and composure in high-pressure matches. Cricket analysts believe his form could make him a vital pillar of South Africa’s batting lineup in the years to come.
