ISLAMABAD: Authorities have finalized comprehensive security arrangements for the central 9th Muharram procession in the federal capital, deploying more than 3,000 personnel from the police, Special Branch, and traffic police to ensure public safety.
According to officials, the procession will be monitored through the Safe City central control room as well as mobile control units stationed along the route. Security forces have established a three-layer security system, while the entire route has been cordoned off with barbed wire and security barriers.
Sniper commandos will be positioned on rooftops overlooking the procession route, and entry points have been equipped with scanners to screen participants.
In addition, bomb disposal squads will conduct thorough sweeps of the area to eliminate potential security threats.
Authorities have also imposed a ban on the operation of private drones in areas surrounding the procession. Special units from the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), district police, and Rangers will be deployed at both the front and rear of the procession.
To facilitate security checks, female police officers and women volunteers will be stationed at designated checkpoints for the screening of female participants. Officials have emphasized that entry to the procession will only be permitted through authorized access points.
Furthermore, parking of vehicles near the procession route has been strictly prohibited as part of the security plan.
The enhanced measures have been introduced to ensure the peaceful observance of 9th Muharram and to provide maximum protection to participants attending the religious event.
