ISLAMABAD: The individual arrested in the United States, initially reported as a Pakistani national, has been confirmed to be an Afghan citizen, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (FO) here clarified.

FO spokesperson Tahir Andarabi issued a statement confirming that the person, identified as Luqman Khan, is not a Pakistani citizen but an Afghan national.

According to the spokesperson, government-level inquiries revealed that Luqman Khan had previously lived in Pakistan as a refugee but spent the majority of his life in the United States.

Tahir Andarabi emphasized that some media reports referring to him as a “Pakistani citizen” were inaccurate and misleading, and stressed the importance of presenting correct information regarding his nationality.

Earlier reports had stated that 25-year-old Luqman Khan was arrested on the night of November 24. According to U.S. media, police stopped a truck in Canby Park West where Luqman was present.

When he allegedly failed to comply with police orders and resisted, he was taken into custody. During the investigation, authorities reportedly recovered a pistol, magazines, and documents indicating a planned attack. The documents included a layout of the University of Delaware police station, entry and exit points, and the name of an officer.

Following the arrest, the FBI conducted a raid on Luqman Khan’s residence on November 25, where additional advanced weaponry was reportedly found. U.S. authorities had previously claimed that Luqman Khan was a Pakistani-American and a student at the University of Delaware, planning an attack on the university’s police department.
