ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has strongly condemned the suicide bombing in Islamabad, describing it as a failure of the country’s intelligence agencies.
In a statement, Maulana Rehman called the bombing “tragic and condemnable,” emphasizing that the perpetrators are enemies of humanity and deserve no mercy. He extended his condolences to the affected families and wished for the swift recovery of the injured.
He expressed concern over the continued terrorist activities, stating, “After Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, now Islamabad is also witnessing a rise in terrorist attacks. No part of the country is safe from terrorists. In these dire circumstances, the performance of the institutions is highly questionable.”
The JUI chief pointed out that sectarian violence fueled by both national and international elements must not be overlooked. He criticized the reliance on visits from government officials and condemning statements after such tragedies, arguing that these actions do not satisfy the nation’s needs.
The JUI chief remarked that if state institutions were free from political interference, they should focus on maintaining law and order and protecting the lives and property of the public. He described the Islamabad bombing as a direct failure of the intelligence agencies, saying, “Despite the presence of dozens of intelligence agencies, Islamabad’s sacred day was stained with blood.”
He asked when state institutions would restore public confidence, asking, “When will they heal the wounds of the people? When will they build a system to protect the future of the public and the generations to come?”
