ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Thursday accepted the appeals of the Punjab government and others filed against its judgement related to Mubarak Sani case.
Mubarak Sani, member of the Ahmedia community, was arrested for printing and distributing a religious book of his community. The Supreme Court had accepted his appeal against a trial court verdict and ordered his release early this year.
Religious parties however objected to certain paragraphs in the judgement of the Supreme Court and launched protests and a few days ago a religious group management to bring a rally of about 6000 people who broke all the barricades and police cordon and entered the red zone of Islamabad and protested outside the Parliament House.
When the court took up the appeals on Thursday, religious party leaders including Maulana fazlur Rahman and others appeared before the court and some others were in attendance via video link.
After listening to the government counsel from Islamabad and Maulana Fazlur Rahman, the Supreme court chief justice Qazi Faez Isa in his short order announced to delete the objectionable paragraphs in the court judgement of Feb 6 and July 24 of this year.
The court order said that it had accepted the arguments of the Council of Islamic Ideology and religious leaders.
