PESHAWAR: A suspect in the massive Kohistan corruption scandal has reportedly fled the country, authorities confirmed on Saturday.
According to sources in the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), the fugitive will be repatriated through Interpol, and efforts to bring him back are already underway.
NAB sources revealed that, to date, 36 suspects, including the primary accused, Qaiser Iqbal, have been arrested in connection with the scandal. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend six additional individuals who are believed to be involved.
In addition, more than four of the arrested suspects have already submitted plea bargain requests, while the assets and bank accounts of all 36 arrested individuals have been frozen as part of the ongoing investigation.
The scandal, which has shaken Kohistan, involves a staggering Rs. 40 billion. Investigations indicate that government officials, contractors, and bank authorities colluded to siphon off billions of rupees through the use of fake companies and forged documents.
